FAQs about Smoked Old Fashioned Cocktail

What is the main ingredient of a Smoked Old Fashioned?

The smoked old fashioned cocktail runs on a simple base: Flor de Caña 12 Year Rum, a touch of simple syrup or agave nectar, and a few dashes of aromatic bitters, the same backbone as any classic old fashioned, just given a playful curl of smoke before it ever meets the glass. Finished with an orange peel and a cherry, it's smoky, rich, and balanced, with an aromatic charm all its own.

What is the best rum for a Smoked Old Fashioned?

This smoked old fashioned recipe was crafted with one rum in mind: Flor de Caña 12 Year Rum, the flagship expression of the Super Premium rum collection.

Its medium body, natural sweetness, and touch of spice hold their own against the smoke, keeping every sip balanced instead of overpowered.

How to make a Smoked Old Fashioned Cocktail?

To make a smokey old fashioned, start by smoking the glass with herbs and citrus skins before pouring anything in. Add Flor de Caña Rum, bitters, and sugar over ice, then top with a splash of sparkling water and twist an orange peel over the drink to express its oils, coating the rim. Finish with the peel and a cherry.

Serve it over one large ice cube in a rock glass, which melts slowly instead of watering the drink down, it's a sipping serve best enjoyed slow, letting the smoke and orange oils open up with every minute.

If you like your rum with even less dilution, the On a Rock serve follows the same easy, spirit-forward philosophy, and if you're after more ways to enjoy the portfolio, explore all rum cocktail recipes here.
